Title: The Effectiveness of Bobath Therapy on Motor Function and Functional Independence in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Abstract: Aim: This systematic review aims to assess the impact of Bobath therapy on motor function and functional independence in children with cerebral palsy.
Method: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search of online databases including PEDro, MEDLINE, COCHRANE, EBSCO, and PubMed was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of Bobath therapy as an intervention for cerebral palsy children. The revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2) was utilized for quality assessment.
Results: A total of 90 articles were identified and 6 eligible articles, comprising 5 randomised controlled trials and one quasi-experimental study, were included in the review. All studies, spanning from 2010 onwards, demonstrated low risk of bias. Bobath therapy was found to have positive effects on gross motor function, balance, upper extremity function, and functional independence in all the studies. However, no significant effects were observed on gait parameters.
Conclusion: While Bobath therapy demonstrated positive outcomes in various aspects of motor function and functional independence, its effectiveness may be enhanced when used as an adjunct to other conventional physiotherapy treatments.
