Title: Assessing the effects of shared family mealtimes on family functioning and socialization among students of the University of Cyberjaya during Movement Control Order (MCO)

Abstract

The study investigated how the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia affected university students' well-being, focusing on family functioning, shared family meals, and mental health. 137 University of Cyberjaya students were surveyed, showing no significant links between the frequency of shared family meals and depression, anxiety, or stress. Better family functioning correlated with lower levels of depression and anxiety. While shared family meals enhanced family dynamics and socialization. These results emphasize the importance of considering familial factors in student well-being. Further research is warranted to delve into these connections and devise targeted interventions to support students' well-being, especially during times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
